The Shift
Into a money making mode has begun. No longer a cruiser, once again a liveaboard. A cold liveaboard. Didn’t think I’d be running my kerosene heater in Florida, but the record breaking low temperatures are dipping into the 30′s tonight. Good thing I didn’t pack away those woolie underwear just yet. But when I do go to pack those bulky winter clothes away (at some point in my life) I will be sure to use a Space Bag…vacuum packed clothing! This is a new discovery for me, thanks to old Rosie.
Besides work to be done and money to be made, there are BOAT PROJECTS. It’s uncanny just how many things need repair. My immediate and PRESSING list includes:
1. Zinc placement (notice it’s not REplacement; there aint no mo’ zinc left!)
2. Refrigeration repair
3. Throttle/shift cable replacement
4. Varnish
5. Rebuild head, and replace all hoses & valves to holding tank
One benefit of becoming a mere liveaboard again is the routine which allows for regular exercise and healthy diet. While cruising I found I ate ALOT. Mostly due to boredom while on watch alone. Peanut Butter, cereal, chips & salsa… lots of junk mostly, cheap filler. I’m looking forward to losing that 3rd chin I’ve developed this winter.

Ben, I’m retired Air Force and my wife and I learned of the Space vacuum bag’s. They work well when travelling. Do you have a vacuum on the boat to withdraw the air?
Rick
Ben one more question? Is the Zinc for corrosion control?
Rick
Ben,
How big was the fish that ate your zinc? Seriously though, since you mostly anchor out (eliminating stay current corrosion at a marina), what is causing so much galvanic activity down there? I’m curious if it an issue with the ship’s ground / bonding system / radio ground / etc?
David
Ben what is the situation with your boat re grounding and so on. Are all the thru hulls bonded together, I know that you had a grounding plate. I just wonder why the zinc disapearred.
Are you getting another DAHONFORTH ridable anchor for exercise?
MARK! You made me LOL! -Rosie

Ben……What type of video camera do you use for videoing? I assume you run it through your computer (what kind)? How do you post in your blog? Utube?Anything on your videoing would be great.
Vid Cam is a cheap Canon, nothing special. Editing is done with iMovie on a Mac, and I upload to Youtube.
I do have a vacuum, a small Shop Vac. I have to run the engine to invert that much power, but no big deal.
I’d love to know why the zincs disappeared so fast. It has been 7 months.
Hey we saw your boat today and tried you on the VHF. No dinghy or Daphne in sight, so I guess you were there or on shore. We raced over to hurricane harbor because we were thinking about going to Bimini tonight. Now it looks more like tomorrow. How is the live aboard life?
